I don’t claim to be perfect.
I don’t claim to have it all figured out.
I just know that there are a lot of things that I have to work on.
It’s so easy to blame someone else for the things that are less than ideal in your life.
Blame your wife. Blame the kids. Blame your parents. Blame the president.
All those things are just excuses though. And part of being a man is stopping with this excuses and taking responsibility for what you’ve made your life.
If your marriage sucks, think about what you could do better. Sure your wife has her flaws too, but as the man it is your responsibility to lead.
If you’re broke, think about how you could work harder or smarter to fix it. The president or congress or the economy or who/whatever is not holding you back. That’s just an excuse.
If you’re being honest, you’re probably just not doing what you need to do (I started typing “you’re probably not working hard enough”, but that’s not always the case… So I reworded it.)
If you’re fat, fix your food and get to the gym. If you’re already working out and can’t unfat yourself, there are other issues there. Still probably diet, but also programming.
The point here is that it is time to take responsibility for where you are in your life.
Your decisions got you where you are. No one did it to you. No one can fix it for you.
But thankfully you can change your decisions.
It’s simple, but it’s not easy.
That’s my favorite phrase, I think.
Simple but not easy.
In a way, I hate it, because I know it means difficult things are ahead. Challenges, struggles, frustration.
But I also love it because it means that I have control. I just have to push past the hard stuff.
And it’s the same for you.
It doesn’t matter where you are right now. You can fix your situation.
And what’s the point of all this?
Well, it’s mostly for me. Everything above is something that I’m struggling with or trying to work on right now.
I’m writing it because I need to read it.
Because I need to take more responsibility for my situation.
Because I need to step up and lead in my household.
Like I said already, I’m not perfect and I’m still figuring stuff out.
If you’re figuring it out too, you can join me on this journey.
